A rare antique 1600s hand engraved cup produced in the Ukrainian Baroque in old Kyivan Russ style. Handmade with silver colored and gilded metal. The bottom shows typical early silversmith technic production. The sides show engraved leaves and flowers typical for Ukrainian baroque. This type of wine chalah was traditionally popular in Kyivan Russ in Eastern Europe in the Middle Ages time from 11 Century A.D. This style was adopted from Byzantine culture. Kievan Rus, also written Kyivan Rus, was a medieval East Slavic state, a federation of city states that flourished in what is now modern day Belarus, Ukraine, and parts of Russia. It emerged in the late 9th century and lasted until the mid-13th century, when it was conquered by the Mongol Empire. The Kyivan Rus state began to decline in the late 11th century, gradually disintegrating into various rival regional powers throughout the 12th century. It was further weakened by external factors, such as the decline of the Byzantine Empire, its major economic partner, and the accompanying diminution of trade routes through its territory. It finally fell to the Mongol invasion in the mid 13th century, though the Rurik dynasty would continue to rule until the death of Feodor I of Russia in 1598. The modern nations of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine all claim Kievan Rus as their cultural ancestor, with Belarus and Russia deriving their names from it. Total weight 340 g. Ukrainian Decorative Collectibles, Drinkware And Barware Pieces For Collectors.
