The letter concerns the sanctions against Israel, which the UN discussed in connection with the military conflicts between Israel and Egypt. At that moment, the Ambassador's residence was located in the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The Ambassador was Henry Cabot Lodge Jr., 1902-1985, a close supporter of Dwight Eisenhower.
